Like
any new parent, when Frida Lacaria began to research
daycares after the birth of her first child in
1997, she had a list of criteria as long as her
arm. Unlike some, however, Frida refused to settle
for the closest match. Upon realizing that no
existing centre was up to meeting all of her needs,
she decided to create one that was.
And
so the South American native traded in her briefcase
for a backpack full of textbooks and embarked
on the six-year journey that would see her fulfill
her vision in the realization of Children's Magic
Moments, a one-of-a-kind daycare centre and nursery
school in North Toronto's Avenue Road and Eglinton
area.
With
a degree in business administration from the University
of Venezuela and more than 20 years of experience
behind her, Frida embarked on this project with
confidence in her ability to run a thriving business.
Prior to helping run her family's manufacturing
business in Venezuela, she managed an international
clothing company for 13 years. After moving to
Canada in 1990, she joined a telecommunications
company where she played a supervisory role until
taking the maternity leave that ultimately became
her resignation.
In
addition to this experience, Frida had a love
for children and knew that she would have plenty
to offer her young clients. However, with just
a few months of parenting under her belt, she
had plenty to learn about what made them tick.
Today, she continues to upgrade her knowledge
and strengthen her skills by attending
regular workshops and seminars.
Frida
opened the doors of Children's Magic Moments in
January 2003. Through nurture, education and a
little magic combined, she is committed to instilling
self-belief among the children in her care. Through
various charitable initiatives, she is also dedicated
to making a difference in the quality of life
for children everywhere.
